British Rankings

British ranking points are awarded for all British tour events, weighted as 'International' 'national', 'regional' or 'local'. For a complete list of 'tour' & 'non-tour' events visit the 'Events' page.

Current UK Rankings as of 06 September 2010

Sime is new English number 1

With strong regular performances throughout 2010 Fiona Sime has overtaken Jane Cook and Natalie Lawrence to become the top ranked player. Dianne Baker is only 70 points adrift so with points available in Edinburgh the race for the number 1 slot will go down to the wire.

In the mens Jermaine Manners is still number 1.  However Ed Batson is now up to number 7 after winning the English Open and has made his intentions clear by entering the Scottish Open.  The current England squad players are then competing with Kiwi Jason Granville for a place in the top 5.  The positions are moving after each tournament depending upon their performance relative to last year.

There are a number of talented youngsters moving up the rankings like Chris McKee (9th), Luke Barnes (28th) and Chris Batey (36th).

Rakesh Gupta is currently in 10th with Mark Steeden and Duncan Stahl very close behind.  We are waiting to see if any further tournaments after Edinburgh can be scheduled and Rakesh will do well to maintain his position against the 2 newcomers this year.

2 other names to look out for are Nick Macey and John Bult.  The Welsh players performed superbly in Vienna and Nick is likely to be given a wildcard into Class A at the upcoming World Championships.  Hopefully we will soon see Nick battling against Jermanie and Ed for the number 1 position

In the Veterans Rakesh Gupta and Steve Kneller, who are both competing on a global basis, are locked in battle for the No.1 position. Dave Lazarus is up to number 5 after winning at Redbridge.  He may rise further after coming 4th in last weeks Austrian Open (only losing by 2 points in the semi final).

Mens Elite History

Below is a list of the top 10 men's elite for the last 3 years.  In 2009 the average number of domestic events entered by the top 10 was 6 with a number of players having a similar number of qualifying World events.

There are plenty of other players who are expected to challenge in 2010. The returning Scot Calum Reid will challenge Jermaine Manners for the top spot if he enters more domestic events. Ed Batson & James Treweek will look to build on recent performances & others like Tom Whitehouse & James Bird could feature.

There has been a change on the World front with the maximum number of qualifying events over the 2 year period being reduced from 10 to 8.  This will impact Jermaine, Ray & to a “lesser” extent Keith (sorry but couldn’t resist the “pun”). The World Championships acted as an inspiration to all that attended. The UK game is really open now internationally following the retirement of Doug Struthers & John O'Donnell.

World Rankings

Currently, if you enter the English Open, Scottish Open, Welsh Open or British Open, you will qualify for world ranking points and thus a world ranking. This is because, these events form part of the world racketlon tour. The English & Scottish Opens form part of the world tour proper & the British & Welsh Opens as challenger events. In 2010 further domestic events will have world ranking points.
